I grew up in this community, and love the fact that I can give back to the system that I attended and graduated from. My husband and I both are in our 21st year as educators, and our passion is working with children. In fact, we have 3 children of our own. Our children are in 4th, 8th and 12th grade...they keep us very busy!
I attended Troy State University, where I graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education. So when I received an offer to teach 5th grade in my hometown, I was eager to begin my career here. Shortly afterwards, I transferred to Gwinnett County, where I taught 4th and 5th graders for many years. While in Gwinnett, I obtained my Masters' Degree in Specific Learning Disabilities and my Specialist’s Degree in Educational Leadership. I eagerly sought a position in leadership, and began that path as an Instructional Coach in Walton County. It wasn't long before I knew that I wanted to go into Administration. My journey in education brought me to Loganville Elementary School, where I truly love working with the students and families here. There is no place like the community of Loganville, and the staff/students at LES are the absolute best! Go Eagles! |
In 1975, I began my teaching career at Leslie J. Steele Elementary in DeKalb County. During my years at Leslie J. Steele Elementary, I taught 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grades. I had the opportunity to teach the same group of students in 4th, 5th and 7th grades. Through my various grade level teaching experiences at Leslie Steele, I learned lots! What was my favorite grade? They all were!! I was promoted to Instructional Lead Teacher at Rainbow Elementary in 1982. I worked as ILT there for five years. Then in 1987, I was promoted to assistant principal and transferred closer to my home. I was assigned to Brockett Elementary in Tucker. I worked there for 13 years as the assistant principal. In the year 2000, I had the opportunity to come to Loganville Elementary as the assistant principal and I have been here ever since! LES is a great place where eagles learn to SOAR!!
I have a wonderful family that has supported me throughout my educational career. My husband, Ron, is semi-retired and busy with his organic farm. My son, Michael, went to GA Tech (go Jackets!) and is a civil engineer. He married a wonderful girl, Kelly, and they have given me 2 grandsons. My daughter graduated from Kennesaw State University and is in her 10th year teaching at North Forsyth. She is married to a great guy, Joey and they have a little girl. My family would not be complete without our precious Yorkie, Luci, that we adopted several years ago. She quickly found her forever home at The Smith House! You might see her sometimes when she visits me at LES! |
